How to bring spring into your apartment on a budget

Spring is here and it’s the perfect time to change things up in your apartment. Even if your budget is tiny, you can bring a touch of the season into your home. Here are our best tips for adding touches of the spring season to your home affordably.

Lighten up

Winter is often characterised by darkness, while spring is known as the sudden return of bright shining light. To add a touch of the season to your home, bring some light into your apartment. It’s easier than you think! Start by opening up the curtains or blinds to literally let the sun shine in. If you have a little money in your budget to play with, swap any heavy winter curtains for more sheer and thin curtains that let in more light while still maintaining your privacy.

Add some greenery

Adding some plant life to your apartment can make it feel much more like spring in your home. You can do this by incorporating live plants, fresh floral arrangements or even artificial floral arrangements. If you want to grow your own plants but don’t have a green thumb, be sure to read our article, “How to become a plant parent” for our best tips for getting started as an apartment gardener. It includes tips on which low maintenance plants to start out with and how to nurture your little buddies like a  pro.

Start a kitchen garden

An extension of the idea of adding greenery to your space is to create an edible kitchen garden. It’s the perfect way to add a bit of spring to your space and your plate. It doesn’t have to be a big undertaking -- consider potting a few spring herbs like dill, basil and mint and placing them on your kitchen windowsill. If you want to venture beyond that, be sure to read our blog post, “How to grow food in an apartment.”

Incorporate new spring decor trends

If your budget can accommodate it, try to incorporate some 2022 spring decor trends by adding colour and texture into your space. You can add pops of colour on a budget by investing in some colourful new pillow shams (check out Winners or Ikea) or an affordable colourful rug or runner. To add texture, look for things like textured throw blankets or rugs (check out Winners or Ikea).

We hope you use these tips to bring a touch of spring into your apartment this year. They won’t break the bank and will hopefully bring you a lot of joy.
