The best places to skate in Canada

In Canada, winter is what we do best! One of the best ways to get outside and enjoy the season is to lace up some skates and go figure skating in one of our country’s amazing skating destinations. Here are the best places to skate across the country. Many of them are worth a trip if you don’t live nearby!

Arrowhead Ice Skating Trail

It doesn’t get more magical than this 1.3 km ice skating trail in a Muskoka forest! Located a 2.5 hour drive away from Toronto, the Arrowhead Ice Skating Trail is worth the trek. You can skate along the trail day or night when the trail lights up with tiki torches.

Natrel Skating Rink

Located in Montreal’s Old Port, the Natrel Skating Rink is a dream on a cold winter’s night. Illuminated by pink lights and surrounded by beautiful Old Port, you’ll feel like you’re in Europe.

The Rideau Canal Skateway

Perhaps the most memorable place to skate in all of Canada, The Rideau Canal Skateway is in a league of its own. It’s an actual canal and it stretches across 7.8km of Ottawa’s downtown core with views of Parliament and stunning Chateau Laurier.

Nathan Phillips Square

An iconic skating rink in Toronto, Nathan Phillips Square is the perfect place to get together with friends for an insta-worthy skating session in front of City Hall and the iconic “Toronto” sign.

Olympic Plaza Rink

Olympic Plaza Rink is a delightful downtown Calgary skating rink that was built in 1988 for the Olympic Winter Games. It’s also the only refrigerated outdoor ice surface in the city!

Lake Louise

Ranked as the world’s best skating rink in 2014 by CNN and The Huffington Post, Lake Louise is an idyllic place to lace up and hit the ice. Surrounded by snow-topped mountains and nestled beside the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, this rink is breathtaking. There’s even an ice castle every year!

We hope you discover these incredible Canadian skating destinations for yourself this winter.
