Pantry recipes we love

When you're in the mood to cook, but not in the mood to shop, you need a good pantry recipe. Pantry recipes call for no special ingredients, no trips to the grocery store, just pantry staples that you most likely already have on hand.

Healthy Granola

The next time you wake up hungry and someone has eaten all your cereal, don't stress, just whip up a batch of Healthy Granola. All you need are some rolled oats, almonds (or any nuts or seeds you have) some kind of cooking oil (coconut oil works well), dried coconut and some honey or maple syrup to sweeten it. Kick the flavour profile up to full blast with some ground cinnamon, salt, and a touch of vanilla.

Black-Eyed Pea Soup

The great thing about pantry recipes is you can be a bit creative.  Black-Eyed Pea Soup usually calls for ham hocks. If you find yourself fresh out of ham hocks, bacon will do just fine. If you don't have fresh or frozen collard greens, any frozen greens will do in a pinch. Even if you don't have black-eyed peas, you can substitute whatever dried beans you do have. You're still going to end up with a hot, comforting and satisfying soup.

Smoky Maple Turkey Chili

A big upside to this Smoky Maple Turkey Chili, aside from the sweet and smoky flavour, is that you can make a big batch of it when you have the supplies and keep the leftovers in the freezer for up to 3 months. It's comforting just to know that comfort food can always be just a reheat away.

Vegan Gluten-Free Pasta Carbonara

If you're craving some rich, creamy, bacon-topped pasta carbonara, but you're also eating plant-based and gluten-free, you're in luck. Someone is looking out for you. This Vegan Gluten-Free Pasta Carbonara is made with rice paper bacon. Yes, that's a thing. You have to see it and taste it to believe it!
