As fall sets in and the weather gets chilly, sipping on a hot drink is a great way to stay warm. BentallGreenOak Residential Services has 5 fall drinks to try this winter.
Cinnamon Rice Drink
This delicious Cinnamon Rice Drink, also known as "Horchata", might just become your new favourite drink. It's low-calorie, full of vitamins and so good! Traditionally, it's served cold, but you can also drink it warm in the winter. Start by grinding rice and cinnamon in a coffee grinder. Grab a medium bowl and mix in ground almonds, cinnamon and rice with ½ L of water. Place a cinnamon stick into the bowl and refrigerate for 8 to 12 hours. Next, you're going to add the mixture to a food processor and blend everything until smooth. Add honey and another ½ L of water and blend until smooth. Next, you're going to warm up the Horchata in a pan and add some tequila if you like. Pour it into a cup, sprinkle some cinnamon on top and serve!
If there's one drink you should whip up this fall it should be some kind of bone broth. A good Chicken Bone Broth is known for its gut-healing and immune-boosting properties, which is why it's the perfect way to warm up on a chilly day. So where do you begin? Well, you're going to need bones of some kind. You can purchase them from a butcher or use leftovers from a roast chicken. Grab a large stock pot, fill it up with filtered water and add in the bones along with some vinegar. Let it sit for 30 minutes. While you wait, cut up some onions, carrots and celery and add them to the pot. Then, add in salt, pepper and any herbs you want. Bring everything to a boil and reduce to a simmer. This can take awhile, but in the first few hours of simmering, you'll need to remove all the impurities that come up to the surface. Just scoop it out with a spoon. You should simmer the broth for at least 8 hours. In the last 30 minutes you can add fresh parsley and garlic. Once it's done, use a strainer to separate the broth from the bones and vegetables. Serve or store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Nothing says cozy like a classic hot chocolate. There are so many ways you can make it, but we've found the easiest recipe that gives you the creamiest and smoothest cocoa. To make this yummy drink, whisk together cocoa or cacao powder, sugar and salt in a medium saucepan. Add in half and half and cook until it starts to boil. Keep stirring and let the mixture simmer for a couple of minutes. Add milk and heat it up, but don't let it boil. Now you can remove the cocoa from the stove and whisk it until it becomes frothy. Grab your favourite mugs, pour in the hot chocolate and top with whipped cream or mini marshmallows.
Chai Orange Latte
Get cozy with this yummy Chai Orange Latte! This recipe is a bit different than a traditional chai latte because you'll be adding orange zest to give the drink a bit of a fruity taste. First, boil some water and grab any chai tea that you have. In an empty cup, place some grated orange zest. Pour your hot water over it and add your tea. Let it sit for a minute, then scoop out the orange zest. Steam some milk of your choice and pour it over the tea. Make this delicious drink even sweeter by adding honey or vanilla and garnish with orange zest!
Vegan Turmeric Latte
If you're on a health kick, this is the perfect drink for you. A Turmeric Latte, also known as a Golden Latte, is healthy, delicious and perfect for cold winter days. It's also a great drink to enjoy before bed since it has calming properties and aids digestion. Making the latte is super easy. Choose your favourite kind of milk and heat it up in a pot, but don't boil it. Remove it from the stove and add in turmeric powder, cinnamon and maple syrup. You can also use agave syrup or honey. Stir everything well until it's smooth or you can mix everything in a blender if you prefer. Serve and enjoy!
